Explore the connection between the Samurai Government and Buddhism!

Kamakura

The Kamakura Shogunate, established by Minamoto no Yoritomo in 1192, marked the beginning of feudal military government. This period was characterized by the rise of the samurai class and the establishment of a feudal system. It was also marked by both the patronage of Buddhism by the ruling class and the rise of new Buddhist movements that catered to the spiritual needs of the samurai and common people alike. We will explore these facts by visiting some temples and shrines.

I was born and grew up in Yokohama. I used to work in Tokyo for more than 20 years. I became the National Government Licensed Guide Interpreter in English in 2013. At first, I had attended a volunteer group which provided a tour of the Imperial Palace East Gardens until 2015. I guided more than fifty times in the garden as a volunteer and studied about Japanese history and culture. Based on this experience, I became a tour guide of this online site in 2015. Since then, I have guided more than 500 tours in Tokyo as well as Yokohama, Kamakura, Hakone, Kyoto, Nikko, etc., while improving my tours. My tours are very flexible and I always do my best to customize them according to the interests of my guests. I studied about the places and will provide you knowledge to appreciate them more deeply than just visiting there by yourself or a member of group tours. I like foods and I know many restaurants which provide typical Japanese lunch with reasonable price without waiting too long. Therefore, I am sure that I can provide you the best tours customized to your interests. It will be my great pleasure to help you to enjoy your stay in Japan. So please be my guest!!

I'm Yukiko Fujii. I'm a Licensed Tour Guide and a Registered Nurse. I've worked as a guide since 2015. Thanks to increasing repeat, referred and new clients, tour guide is my main job. I've done virtual experience on Amazon and company events during the last 3 years pandemic. Since I am one of a few guides who tried virtual tour in Tokyo during pandemic, it was a challenging, but it was definitely a great step and enhanced my guiding skills. I was born and raised in Tokyo. I am a mother so that I'd be glad to welcome families with young children as well. I used to teach Japanese cultures to elementary students from Kindergarten to Grade 6 at local and private elementary schools when I lived in Canada, United states, and New Zealand. My happiest moments with these children were when they look forward to another lesson every week. All lessons were customized and prepared after discussing with each classroom teacher. It was a challenging job, but this experience broaden my horizon and prompted me to become an English tour guide. I have a license of Registered Nurse and a Medical interpreter.  I've still worked as a nurse during the off- tourism season so that I've kept a medical back ground. There are some common thinking between Tour guide and Nurse, both jobs are required to put myself into their shoes. I'll make plans considering their physical conditions and will arrange any supports after discussing about the tour.  I've already experienced to do several tours for mobility challenged clients who have intractable disease and have a difficulty for a long walking. Mobility challenged customers (cane/wheelchair) are always welcomed.   I'd love to make your trip meaningful and unforgettable. Please feel free to contact with me anytime.    I'm looking forward to meeting you in my tour! Arigatou!

Hi, I'm Yoko, a National License Tour Guide&International Kikisake-shi. I speak with an American accent, 'cause I lived in Seattle, Washington for six years in my childhood(3-9 years old). My tours might be better with people who LOVE TO WALK, have STAMINA and keen to learn about the culture. Now I live within a walking distance from Ueno Park, Tokyo, so I see a lot of International tourists walking around in my neighborhood every day. (PLEASE CHECK EACH TOUR. The expenses are spelled out, too.) "Tokyo is larger than we thought and the transportations are so complicated," Swedish guys told me. I'm here to help you. I know well about Tokyo, Yokohama, Yamanashi etc. and I travel most of the parts of Japan. I would appreciate if you could see more sightseeing spots with me as your guide and enjoy your stay. I love to answer your questions, even though I became nearly breathless when I was with American guests, a family of three, curiously asking me questions after questions:-) I appreciated their interest in Japan very much. I also go mountain trekking for nearly thirty years. I've been to the summit of Mt. Fuji and Mt. Kitadake three times. Talking about Mt. Takao, maybe more than fifty times. I hope we can enjoy the beautiful view together. I'm looking forward to seeing you soon and having a good time together. Hope to hearing from you soon.

Hi everyone! Hearty welcome to Japan. I’m Tomoko. I am an English-speaking licensed tour guide, and a registered nurse as well. “Fun Discovering Experience Walking like a Local!” – F-D-E-W-L! That’s what I suggest. 【Experiences】 My work history is as follows. 1) high school teacher ---12 years 2) nurse--8 years + 2 years as operational manager for Kamakura city vaccination team (during COVID period) 3) tourism related jobs such as tour conducting, guiding, and backyard supporting---10 years As a tour conductor, I’ve visited about 20 foreign countries (possibly yours?) as well as countless number of towns and villages in Japan. I’ve enjoyed these jobs while being a mother. Through these experiences with lots of people from different backgrounds, I've found it a great pleasure to share the joy of learning and experiencing something new! 【Guiding Areas】 <Basic> Tokyo, Kamakura, Hakone, Fuji, Yokohama, Nikko, and other neighboring areas from Tokyo I’m a specialist in Tokyo and Kamakura as I have lived and enjoyed walking a lot in those cities for decades. To be honest, even after all my years here, I still enjoy exploring like a tourist as Tokyo is such an enormous city with great diversity and is constantly changing. Kamakura is a historical small city with nice beaches and hills and lots of hidden spots of beauty. Almost every time I go out, I feel I’m still making new discoveries. That’s why I cannot stop exploring. I would take you to some neighboring areas like Hakone, Yokohama, Nikko, and Mt. Fuji area (Lake Kawaguchiko), etc. <Based on Requests > *if my transportation & accommodation are covered Nagoya, Kyoto, Nagano(Nagano city, Snow Monkey park, Kisoji trail, etc.), Hida (Takayama, Shirakawa-go), Kanazawa, Oita, Yamagata, Akita, etc. My original family is from Nagoya, so I know their culture and even their language(dialect) well. Later in my life, I have lived in Oita, Kyushu(far south west of Tokyo) for nearly 10 years and traveled a lot in Kyushu. I love traveling Tohoku, the northern Japan area, too. I’ve planned and enjoyed visiting many of those local areas in the north, too. So, I could share those experiences with you even while having tours in Tokyo or online. 【Personality and others】 - I love meeting people, listening and talking to them. - I'm friendly and caring, I hope:) - I love nature and enjoy hiking and skiing. - I love seasonal flowers and good local food. - You will see a lot about Japanese culture, nature, and lifestyle with me. What has made you decide to come to Japan, by the way? Is it its scenic beauties, exotic culture, history, food, anime, or what else? Is it your business that has brought (or will bring) you here? Let me have a clue and customize your tour. I will make the best tour suggestion for you. Why don’t you contact me now? I’m looking forward to seeing you soon! Thank you! Arigato-gozaimas!

Hi, I'm Mai. I have several years of experience as a volunteer guide and I've lived in Finland for half a year. Besides being a guide,I also study architecture as a hobby over the past several years. That’s why I registered on this platform to create an original tour featuring architecture and latest trends for local. Historical Japanese structures such as World Heritage is amazing, but Japan has many wonderful contemporary structures like shrines and museums, which is designed by various architects. I hope to show them with my tour. I was born in Hokkaido and it's been about 10 years since I moved to Tokyo area. I have always had a strong admiration for Tokyo, and have been exploring various attractive spots around the city. That's why I'll not only guide you to the main tourist spots ,but also arrange unique experience according to your preference :) ===== Traveling gives me a chance to get to know how other people live, their culture, and discovering new places . This is why I work as a guide, my goal is to give guests a real "local experience"--like what I've experienced on my travels so far. Don't worry if you are not good at English. Unfortunately, I can only speak Japanese and English, but I will do my best to make your tour as satisfying as possible using gestures and various other ideas. Hope to see you soon!

Excellent Kamakura/Enoshima tour with Tomoko

We met as strangers but left as family! From our first contact to touring with Tomoko, she was accommodating, flexible, informative, and ready to answer our many questions. She put together a great itinerary with our special requests for our personalized tour. She was very attentive to our wants and needs. Upon arrival at our hotel, we were warmly welcomed and instantly became friends. Tomoko is an excellent English speaking tour guide who taught us about the culture and history of Kamakura/Enoshima. She is warm, friendly, patient, engaging, and well-organized. We accomplished a lot in our one-day walking tour going to 2 temples and 1 shrine in Kamakura and 1 shrine on Enoshima Island. She recommended the perfect places to shop for omiyage/snacks. Lunch on Enoshima Island was AMAZING! Due to the hot humid weather and crowds during hydrangea season, she adjusted our itinerary to make it a more enjoyable day. Tomoko is also a great photographer/videographer and knows the best spots to take wonderful pictures/videos. At the end of our day, she recommended returning back on the train in the green car-reserved seats. It was a great suggestion! Even though we did not want the day to end, it was nice to relax and take a nap in comfort after a fabulous day of sightseeing. We highly recommend booking a tour with Tomoko! Tomoko-Thank you again! You’re a remarkable tour guide. You’ve become a cherished friend and part of our ohana (family) during our travels. The laughter, shared stories, and the sense of adventure you infused into our private tour created bonds that will linger in our memories for a lifetime. Your dedication to your craft and the genuine connections we made during this unforgettable adventure made it an exceptional tour. We feel so very fortunate to have met you, and we look forward to crossing paths again in the near future in Japan & in Hawaii. Aloha ‘Oe (Farewell) A Hui Hou Kakou- (Until we meet again)! Tisha, Keith, Robyn, Milton

Tomoko H.

Wow! Thank you so much, Tisha, for taking your time to write such a grand descriptive review for me. I was very motivated because you did a lot of research beforehand about my hometown, Kamakura, and each of you made individual requests. It was a very satisfying day for me, too, especially because at the end we were able to complete our dragon mission on Enoshima! We had to walk to Sasuke Inari in a sweat because we couldn't catch a cab, we were surrounded by groups of students here and there, and there were times when what was supposed to be a foodie tour almost became a fasting tour, but that made the late lunch at Enoshima even more delicious! Mahalo for the wonderful souvenirs and lots of smiles from Hawaii. I am also very much looking forward to seeing you all again, Tisha, Keith, Robyn, and Milton. またね、Matane! (See you soon!) - Tomoko
