Make the most of your time to discover the history, culture and curiosities of the city rightly defined as the “Cradle of the Renaissance”. Palaces of noble families, centuries-old churches, medieval alleys and squares that are real open-air museums.
Go further, straight to the soul of this fascinating city. A walk of only two hours in which you will have the opportunity to discover the city, which for centuries has been a cultural center for artists and travelers from all over the world.
Piazza Santa Maria Novella - in front of the church.
The starting point is Piazza Santa Maria Novella, in the immediate vicinity of the railway station. The Basilica of SMN is a jewel of Gothic architecture with the only Renaissance marble facade, a masterpiece by Leon Battista Alberti, completed in the second half of the 15th century and a testimony to the greatness of the theories of Filippo Brunelleschi, architect and father of the Renaissance.
Palazzo Strozzi, a perfect example of Renaissance architecture. We'll step into the 15th Century courtyard and be surpriesed by its geometrical proprotions.
We'll see the ancient Jewish quarter left after the 19th Century restyling works that have turned the center of Florence, from a medieval town into a modern city.
We arrive in the religious center of the city where, majestic and perfect, we will be fascinated by the view of the Baptistery, the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, Giotto's Bell Tower and the recognizable Brunelleschi's Dome; five centuries of history and art in just one square!
Discover “the city of the towers”, the Florence of a past world, a journey through time between the Middle Ages, the nineteenth-century city and the contemporary city. Dante Alighieri is considered the "Father of Italian language", he was born in Florence in 1266 and wrote the "Divine Commedy".
Piazza della Signoria, a true city museum with Palazzo della Signoria (Palazzo Vecchio), the Statue of Neptune and a copy of Michelangelo's David. Very impressive is the Loggia dei Lanzi, the first open-air museum ever!
The walk ends on Ponte Vecchio, the oldest bridge of Florence, built more the 2000 years ago. It is one of the most popular symbols of the city and famous because of its hisoriacal gold shops.
From Ponte Vecchio we will enjoy one of the gratest views of Florence by the river.
