Pocari Sweat is a popular Japanese soft drink and sports drink launched in 1980 that is manufactured by Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. Pocari Sweat is a mild-tasting, relatively light, non-carbonated sweet beverage and is advertised as an "ion supply drink". It has a mild grapefruit flavor with little after taste. Quickly absorbed by the body as it is a solution that approximates the electrolyte concentration in the human body. It is the perfect beverage for those that have been perspiring while playing sports, working, or taking a hot bath. It can also hydrate you first thing in the morning.

A project called "Lunar Dream Capsule" was started by Pocari Sweat to send a "dream capsule" to the moon that will have the same shape as a Pocari Sweat can and will be filled with Pocari Sweat powder. To be launched in October 2015, after arrival, Pocari Sweat will be the first commercial product advertised on the Moon. Pocari Sweat is also running a campaign to send your messages to the moon via a lunar dream messenger.

With off-putting or humorous connotation of the reference to sweat in the name of the beverage, English speakers might tend to not pick this drink in the vending machine. However, the name was chosen by the manufacturers originally for the purpose of marketing the product as a sports drink in Japan, where English words are used differently.

Pocari Sweat, similar to Aquarius, is also one of the famous sports energy drinks in Japan. One of the notable endorsers of Pocari Sweat is the all-girl Japanese band SCANDAL which featured Pocari Sweat in their music video for the song “Beauteen”.
