Some places have an age restriction, so make sure your children are old enough to enter.

2. Mount Takao 

 

If you want to take a day to enjoy nature in Tokyo, you should try hiking Mount Takao. It’s only about 1 hour away from central Tokyo, and it’s not a difficult mountain to climb. Beginners and even children can enjoy the hike. There’s even a cable car for people who want to go to the top but don’t want to climb the mountain. At the top, there’s a temple, a monkey park, and a beautiful view of the surrounding area. It’s especially popular during the season of the autumn colors and on weekends during the warmer months.

  • From Shinjuku station, take the Keio line train to Takaosanguchi Station, the station at the foot of the mountain. It takes about 50 minutes.

3. Ninja & Samurai Experience

 

Fascinated by the ninja or samurai? Why not take the opportunity to make that fantasy a real experience? Several places teach you the art of becoming a samurai or ninja and letting you dress up like one while you’re at it. It sounds like fun, doesn’t it? Make sure you book a reservation.

Access:

  •  Closed on Tuesdays & Wednesdays

4. Rainbow Promenade (Rainbow Bridge Walkway)

 

Rainbow Bridge is a huge bridge connecting Tokyo with the Bay Area of Odaiba. Usually, you drive over it in a car or cross it on the Yurikamome monorail. However, you can walk across the 1.7 km bridge in about 20 to 30 minutes. If you walk across around sunset, you’ll be able to take some amazing pictures.

 

Access:

  • The Shibaura exit is a 5-minute walk from Shibaura-Futo Station on the Yurikamome Monorail.
  • The Odaiba exit is a 15-minute walk from Odaiba Kaihinkoen Station.

  • Odaiba exit: 1-1 Daiba, Minato-ku, Tokyo

Hours:

  • April 1 - Oct. 31: 9 am - 9 pm
  • Nov. 1 - Mar. 31: 10 am - 6 pm

Closed:

  • Every 3rd Monday of the month. If Monday is a holiday, the next day is closed instead.

5. Street Kart Akihabara

At the ramen museum, there are ramen shops from all over, so you can eat the different kinds of ramen while you’re in this one place. The museum is in Yokohama, so it’s a little less than 1 hour away from central Tokyo.

  • 8-minute walk from Exit 8 of Shin-Yokohama Station on the Yokohama City Subway
